Jaguar Engine Overheating

The Best Shop to Cool Down Your Overheated Jaguar in Allentown

by schearerswpadmin November 5, 2020

Jaguars are agile, sophisticated, and powerful vehicles. However, all of that power can sometimes be too much for a Jaguar’s engine, causing it to wear down, malfunction, and overheat.

An overheated engine can inflict serious damage on your vehicle and may have deadly consequences if left unaddressed. Therefore, if your vehicle’s engine has overheated, you should know how to identify and deal with the problem. Here are some tips to help you with this.

Potential Causes of Engine Overheating

Several factors could potentially cause your Jaguar’s engine to overheat, the most common of which is a problem with the coolant system. For example, adding the wrong type or amount of coolant to the system may cause engine troubles.

If you do not put enough coolant in your vehicle, then it will be unable to sufficiently regulate the engine temperature, which will cause overheating. Additionally, before you add coolant to your vehicle’s engine, you should always mix it with an equal amount of purified water. Failing to do so, or adding tap water to the coolant instead of purified water, can corrode the system and cause serious engine malfunctions.

Another coolant system problem that can cause engine overheating is coolant leaks. Most coolant leaks occur at the connection points between different parts in the system, i.e., the head gasket and radiator cap seals and the junction between the water pump and the radiator hose.

Cracks in the expansion tank, which is a container that helps circulate coolant through the engine, can also cause coolant leaks. Regardless of the source, a coolant leak will drain coolant away from the engine, allowing it to overheat.

A third common cause of engine overheating is thermostat failure. Your Jaguar’s thermostat is responsible for gauging your engine’s temperature and directing coolant flow accordingly. Over time, the thermostat will be exposed to extreme temperatures and corrosive substances, both of which may cause it to malfunction. When this happens, it may block coolant from reaching the engine, which will make the engine overheat.

How to Tell if Your Jaguar’s Engine has Overheated

There are a variety of symptoms you can look for to determine if your Jaguar’s engine is overheating. Fortunately, most of these symptoms are easy to identify.

Often, the first warning sign of a potential overheated engine will be puddles of coolant in your regular parking spaces. These puddles indicate a leak in your vehicle’s coolant system, which is a common precursor to engine overheating.

In addition to finding coolant leaks, you may also notice that your vehicle’s engine is making a loud ticking noise. This means that your engine’s oil has become overheated and is no longer lubricating the engine properly. The noise may be accompanied by a burning or melting smell, as an engine that is hot enough to overheat oil will also be hot enough to melt its own rubber and plastic components. If you notice either of these symptoms, either independently or together, you should cease driving and contact a professional mechanic.

If you fail to heed these warning signs, your vehicle’s engine will soon overheat to the point that smoke begins pouring out from under the hood. This indicates that your vehicle’s coolant has reached its boiling point and is turning into vapor. This vapor can cause immense pressure build up in the coolant system, and this pressure may make the system explode if it’s not dealt with immediately. If you notice steam coming out from under your Jaguar’s hood, you should pull over and shut off your vehicle’s engine.

Even after the engine has stopped smoking, do not drive your vehicle. Instead, contact a tow truck to take it to a mechanic who can fix the problem. Above all, do not attempt to open the radiator cap when the engine is hot, as doing so will spray you with boiling coolant.
